Text: Review Policy / What You Should Know Before Asking Me for a Review

Welcome to Pucksandpaperbacks’ Review Policy!

Before requesting a review from me, please read the following criteria. It is very exhausting to receive emails that clearly show you haven’t done your research on me. Any requests that do not adhere to my rules will be subject for deletion. I ONLY accept the genres, topics, and demographics listed below.

I only accept Young Adult, Adult/NA, Middle Grade, and Children’s titles in the Contemporary or Romance genre. I prioritize novels with LGBTQIA+ themes & protagonists, and especially transgender protagonists. I will read & review self published, indie, and trad-pub books.

I DO NOT review the following genres: Fantasy, Sci-fi, Paranormal, Mystery/Thriller. I get hundreds of emails being asked to review these genres that I don’t read. You are wasting your time by asking me to review it.

Please seek out reviewers who ARE reading the genres of the book you’re trying to pitch! For my day job, I work as a freelance book publicist, if you’re in need of those services, I’d love to share my expertise!

NO AI. I do not accept any books that are created with Generative AI in any capacity (cover or writing).

  • Physical (ARC or finished copy)
  • E-book (compatible with Kindle; EPUB)
  • Audiobook 
  • NO PDFs 

What to Include in your Review Request 

I get a lot of review requests and I will not accept every request. I accept review requests based on my personal interest. If you don’t hear back from me within 3-5 days, I’ve most likely sent your request to trash because it shows you have not read my review policy. Also, any requests misgendering me, using my dead name, or referring to me as my username will go to my trash can immediately.

  • Title and author
  • Short summary of the book
  • Genre
  • Demographic
  • Why you’d like me to review the book
  • Additional information
  • A link the book (retail website or author’s webiste is fine)

Reviews ​

Primarily, I post my reviews on StoryGraph and retail sites such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble. And if I enjoyed it enough, I will promote it on social media: YouTube, TikTok, & Instagram. On YouTube, I review the books I’ve read in either monthly wrap-ups or recent reads videos.

I do not do paid collaborations for book reviews. All of my reviews are my brutally honest opinions and that does not change if I am sent a copy of the book. Please note that I do not use a star rating system.
