Text: Review Policy / What You Should Know Before Asking Me for a Review

Welcome to Pucksandpaperbacks’ Review Policy!

I am an #ownvoices transgender masculine reviewer. I only accept Young Adult, Adult/NA, Middle Grade, and Children’s titles in the Contemporary genre. I prioritize Contemporary novels with LGBTQIA+ themes meaning that the story centers on an LGBTQIA+ protagonist and/or the author is in the LGBTQ+ community. If the story is about a trans masculine character, that is my main priority.

Please read the information below. I ONLY accept the genres, topics, and demographics listed below. Any emails that do not align with my guidelines will be sent to the trash.

It is very exhausting to receive emails that clearly show you haven’t done your research on me and I won’t waste my time. I DO NOT review Historical Fiction, Fantasy, Paranormal, Mystery/Thriller, or Sci-Fi. You are wasting your time asking me to review it. I get hundreds of emails being asked to review these genres that I don’t read and it’s very tiring.  

Please seek out reviewers who ARE reading the genres of the book you’re trying to pitch! I work part-time as a freelance book publicist, if you’re in need of those services, I’d love to share my expertise!

  • Contemporary (YA) 
  • Graphic Novels 
  • LGBTQ+ Characters & Stories (Trans stories are my main priority)
  • Transgender Male and Gender Non-Conforming Stories 
  • LGBTQ+ Non-Fiction 
  • Grief
  • Anxiety
  • Depression 

Demographics 

  • Young Adult
  • Middle Grade or Children’s
  • Adult or New Adult

Formats I Accept: 

  • Physical (ARC or finished copy)
  • E-book (compatible with Kindle)
  • Audiobook 
  • NO PDFs 

What to Include in your Review Request 

I try my best to decide on books to review based on how many I currently have. Therefore, I will not accept every request. If you don’t hear back from me within 3-5 days, I usually ignore requests that show you haven’t watched my channel nor have read my review policy and are requesting a genre I do not review. Also, any requests misgendering me or using my dead name will go to my trashcan immediately. 

​In your request, please include the book’s synopsis, genre, demographic, target audience, why you want me to review the book, and any other additional information. If you include a video you’ve watched of mine or a comp title of a book I’ve reviewed and enjoyed, you’re more likely to get an acceptance from me!

My Reviews ​

I post my reviews on Goodreads primarily and if I enjoyed it enough, I will promote it in my videos. Please note that I do not use a star rating system. I do not do paid collaborations for book reviews. All of my reviews are my honest opinions. I also discuss all of the books I’ve read in seasonal wrap-up videos.  If you would like me to feature your book in a video, I request compensation. See my Media Kit for more details.
